In order to be eligible to participate in any KApOA program and receive monetary awards, your horse must be certified as a KY-Bred Appaloosa. You might be wondering, what is a KY bred Appaloosa?
- Application for Horse to be Certified KY Bred
For a horse to be certified KY Bred, it must meet 3 Requirements:
(1) Must have FOALED IN KENTUCKY.
(2) The BREEDER (mare owner) listed on the registration papers MUST SHOW A KY ADDRESS.
OR
(3.) The Appaloosa SIRE must have stood in KENTUCKY at the time of breeding
Foals born in 2007 Must

(1) Must have FOALED in KENTUCKY
(2) Must show a KENTUCKY BREEDER (mare owner) address
(3)Must be SIRED by an APPALOOSA stallion STANDING IN KENTUCKY.As of January 1st, 2008:Foals of 2008 or Later MustMeet these Requirements:
(1) Must have FOALED in KENTUCKY(2) Mare must be Bred in KENTUCKY(3)Must be SIRED by an APPALOOSA stallion STANDING the entire breeding season IN KENTUCKY.**** Appaloosa Sire must stand his entire breeding season inKentucky (stallion not permitted to breed outside of Kentucky this breeding season unless sold). If a stallion is sold prior to end of breeding season, foals resulting from mares bred to the stallion before he left Kentucky will still be eligible for KApOA Certification if all other requirements are met. Semen may be shipped within Kentucky for a KApOA eligible foal if all other requirements are met. Semen shipped out of Kentucky will not result in a KApOA eligible foal. The BREEDER (mare owner) does NOT have to have a Kentucky address. If the breeder (mare owner) lives outside Kentucky, a foal verification form certifying that the foal was born in Kentucky is REQUIRED within 48 hours of the foal's birth.
Any attempt in connection with the Kentucky Horse Breeders’ Incentive Fund to provide false or misleading information to the Kentucky Appaloosa Owners Association or government officials, or to otherwise engage in fraudulent activity, shall result in appropriate disciplinary action by the KApOA and the application of all civil and criminal penalties that may apply.
